The best possible description of Nuri Şahin's attitude and playing style is actually of the team he was a part of until yesterday - which draws an analogy to a team he chose not to join. It is from Der Spiegel: "Young professionals, technically and tactically well educated, aware of their own strengths but never arrogant – Dortmund is like a miniature of the national side."  Nuri Şahin, of course, was one of the bright young things in the Bundesliga Championship winning Borussia Dortmund midfield but has chosen not to play for Germany and plays for Turkey instead.

Nuri Şahin is the world's second worst actor of all time - after our very own Mesut Özil  - with whom he is close friends (they also share an agent). Here they are, fostering German-Turkish harmony before the (rather heated) Germany-Turkey European Qualification match in Berlin of October 2010.

A warning to German speakers (or speakers of any language for that matter) - the cringe you are about to experience could be fatal.
 

Experts are divided! Was it adorable? Was it lethally cringe-worthy?


Translation -

Mesut Özil and Nuri Şahin share another distinction - they are both former targets of a team known for spotting them young. Le Boss once took the time to comment on both of them - which immediately priced them out of his market. His short and sweet verdict on Nuri -

Some Game Highlights -
 

For a taste of what's coming. This is the game against Bayern Munich (putatively the Liga's "top team") at home earlier in the league season. The video shows his highlights. He was at the centre, as he always was, of everything his team did. Perfectly gorgeous free-kick at 4:27-

 

Interesting piece of trivia: Bayern Munich is Bastian Schweinsteiger's club, and he was Real Madrid's original defensive midfield transfer target in the January window. He decided to stay at Bayern München after announcing that his heart "bleeds red and white." This is bullshit. His girlfriend wasn't interested in the move. All things considerd, I think we got the more adaptable player and he's certainly just as talented.
